Managing your School Library
"School librarians understand that children of the Millennium
generation are consumers and creators in multi-media digital spaces…They
know that the world of this young generation is situated at the
crossroads of information and communication. School librarians bring
pedagogical order and harmony to a multi-media clutter of information by
crafting challenging learning opportunities, in collaboration with
classroom teachers and other learning specialists, to help learners use
the virtual world, as well as traditional information sources, to
prepare for living, working, and life-long learning in the 21st
century." Todd, R. and Gordon, C. (2010). School libraries, now more than ever: a position paper of the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries. (CISSL)

a school library involves a complex mix of professional
responsibilities. It entails supporting the information literacy and
inquiry needs of your users, developing collaborative relationships with
teaching colleagues, sharing your knowledge and love of children's and
young adult literature with your students and their teachers, and
undertaking the administrative functions that sit behind a smoothly
running library.

The school library and its role continues to
change in line with curriculum and learning directions, along with the
evolving information landscape and the technologies we use to access and
use information.
